D A V I D C R A I G H O W S O N

Inspired by the Staffordshire Moorlands & ancient scandinavian cultural artefacts. I have always been fascinated by the wilderness and the way it makes you feel. I try to make pottery that contains textures and forms of the beauty of the wilderness.

I use a variety of dark stoneware clays, both thrown on a wheel or hand building techniques. The main body of my work is produced in dark stoneware clay as a base. I then decorate using sgraffito or using objects found in nature to press stamp into the clay. Which I then decorate using a selection of hand made slips & glazes. The pottery is then fired in an oxidized atmosphere for multiple firings.
